Open WhatsApp and the conversation you want to analyse. Open the chat menu, choose More, then Export chat. Select “Without mediaâ€. Save or share the exported file somewhere you can access from your browser.
Fastest Android route: share straight to X-Ray
On supported Android Chromium browsers, install WhatsApp X-Ray as an app once. After that, export the chat without media and choose WhatsApp X-Ray from the Android Share sheet when it appears. The shared ZIP or TXT is received by the installed web app and opened locally.
iPhone steps
Open WhatsApp and the conversation. Tap the contact or group name at the top, scroll to Export Chat, then choose “Without Mediaâ€. Save the export to Files or another location you can select from the browser.
If WhatsApp gives you a ZIP
Some devices or sharing methods package the export as a ZIP file. Choose that ZIP directly in WhatsApp X-Ray; the app finds the chat text inside it locally and ignores the media files for text analysis.
Choose the right date order
WhatsApp X-Ray detects day/month/year or month/day/year automatically. South African day/month/year is used as the fallback when an export is completely ambiguous, with an advanced manual override available if dates ever look wrong.
Only analyse chats you are entitled to use
A chat export can contain another person’s private communications. Use WhatsApp X-Ray only with conversations you are legally and ethically entitled to analyse.
